Australia ninth in electrifying 2026 FIM Motocross of Nations

The MXstore Australian team has finished a gutsy ninth in the 2026 FIM Motocross of Nations (MXoN), held in front of a boisterous crowd in France on October 3-4.

ProMX stars Jed Beaton (MXGP), Aaron Tanti (Open) and Alex Larwood (MX2), all making their MXoN debuts in the high-stakes event, finished on 87pts, right on the tail of Great Britain (82pts) and Switzerland (82pts) and ahead of France (90pts).

At the front of the pack, Belgium (23pts) – Lucas Coenen, Liam Everts and Sacha Coenen – snapped Australia’s winning streak as it returned to the MXoN summit for the first time since 2013. Spain (26pts) and The Netherlands (34pts), led by the irrepressible Jeffrey Herlings, completed the 2026 MXoN podium in front of 105,000 spectators.

Australia easily made it through MXoN qualifying on Saturday, and the solid form continued in Sunday’s opening MXGP/MX2 moto with Beaton (Yamaha) and Larwood (Honda) finishing 11th and 21st respectively.

Larwood then reproduced the same result in the MX2/Open moto, while luck wasn’t on Tanti’s side after his throttle cable broke in a minor bingle.

In the always mesmerising MXGP/Open finale, Beaton (10th) and Tanti (24th) kept their power dry to bring it home – more than enough for the Aussies to move back inside the top 10 after a sensational day of racing at Ernee.

“What an event – I was so proud to wear and represent the green and gold for the first time,” said Beaton. “Also, thanks to Alex and Aaron for putting in such a huge effort, and to the small section of Aussie supporters in the crowd thanks for getting behind us.”

At an individual level, Beaton was sixth overall in the MXGP class at Ernee, Larwood was eighth in MX2 and Tanti – hamstrung by his DNF – 15th in Open.

The class victors were Jorge Prado (Spain, MXGP), Guillem Farres (Spain, MX2) and Herlings (Open), while the motos were won by Frenchman Romain Febvre (MXGP/MX2) before Herlings (MX2/Open and MXGP/Open) ran amok.

Australia’s MXoN campaign was again being backed by long-time supporter, MXstore.

The 2027 FIM Motocross of Nations will be held at Assen in The Netherlands from October 8-10.
