Wonthaggi, Vic
Round one of the ProMX Championship is supported by the Victorian Government via its Significant Sporting Events Program and the Bass Coast Shire Council.
Wonthaggi’s high-flying status as the opening round in the Penrite ProMX Championship presented by AMX Superstores will continue for the sixth successive year in 2026, with the spectacular track in regional Victoria to again kickstart hostilities in Australia’s premier motocross series.
With ongoing support from the Bass Coast Shire Council, all attention will turn to the Gippsland-based venue for the second consecutive year of an extended two-day round that was met with great success last year. The 2025 opening round saw a huge crowd turn out for the Kawasaki MX1, Pirelli MX2, Maxxis MX3, Fox Racing MX85 and the Ezilift MXW class, which was held in conjunction with the FIM Oceania Women’s Motocross Cup. The unique event within an event saw four nations (Australia, New Zealand, America and Africa) battle it out in a bid to take the trophy back home, with Team Australia claiming the honours.
Wonthaggi has not only become one of the blue-chip rounds in the ProMX Championship because of its spectacular layout but its picturesque surrounds, wide-ranging hospitality and service options across the region help to make it one of the most accommodating venues on the calendar.
As is the case with the start of every new season, the anticipation will be intense as all riders – some in new teams and surroundings – start with a blank canvas as the battle to become Aussie motocross champions begins in earnest. For back-to-back MX1 champion Kyle Webster, Wonthaggi is also his home round as he lives just up the road in Korumburra.
Run by the Dandenong Motorcycle Club, the schedule includes practice, qualifying and racing with action from Australia’s best riders.
