Beaton breaks leg in training accident, will miss the remainder of the 2025 ProMX Championship

Jed Beaton has suffered a devastating blow, breaking his leg in a training accident on July 16 that will sideline him for the remainder of the 2025 Penrite ProMX Championship.

The Kawasaki MX1 championship leader was putting the final touches on his round seven preparations when he miscued a jump and landed awkwardly, breaking his right femur. He was quickly transported to hospital for further assessment and once the final x-rays and scans are completed, the rehabilitation process will begin.

The highly unfortunate incident is a cruel blow for Beaton’s title fight, which means it’s likely that he will surrender his current 29-point lead. The flow-on effect is that the fight for the title is well and truly up for grabs with Kyle Webster, Nathan Crawford, Wilson Todd and Zac Watson all mathematical chances to win.

“Everyone at CDR is just gutted,” said Monster Energy CDR Yamaha team owner, Craig Dack. “To get that phone call this morning really took the wind out of our sails and has had an emotional effect on the staff.

“Jed and the team had worked so hard over the past 18 months and then for him to finally have a breakout ride at Canberra and absolutely dominate the day, like we knew he could, and increase his lead in the championship to 29 points, to the numb feeling we have now is so hard to explain.

“We are all a bit speechless.”

The news comes as Aaron Tanti is about to make his comeback to racing after seven months off with a neck injury.

Tanti has been back training approximately one month and is on track to contest the final two rounds, but with low expectations.

“I have been riding and feel better on the bike every time but it’s just baby steps at this point and I have to start somewhere, he said.”

“I will be behind the gate at Toowoomba and looking to get back into the swing of racing.”

For Beaton though, the injury puts an abrupt end to his ProMX season and is a stark reminder of the highs and lows of the sport, but what’s guaranteed for the road ahead is that Dack’s squad will be a constant support for him as he continues his recovery, no matter the timeframe.

“Between CDR and his brother Ross, we have scrambled to get a great medical team around him and will ensure he gets the help and support he needs to make a full recovery,” Dack explained. “We don’t have an exact timeline on it, but we know Jed is the ultimate professional and will dedicate himself to his rehab and be back on the bike better than ever.”

The Penrite ProMX Championship presented by AMX Superstores will resume at Toowoomba for the penultimate round of the 2025 season on Sunday, July 27.
