MA Motocross State Challenge to shine a light on Australia’s emerging stars
The 2025 MXGP of Australia in Darwin from September 19-21 will not only showcase the finest motocross riders on the planet but also the next wave of potential national and world champions in the MA Motocross State Challenge.
The return of the FIM Motocross World Championship to Australia after a 24-year absence has provided the perfect setting to inaugurate the MA Motocross State Challenge, which will see 84 of Australia’s brightest juniors compete in MX85 and MX3 motos at the Hidden Valley Motorsports Complex alongside the three world championship classes: MXGP, MX2 and WMX.
MX85 and MX3 are the two main development classes in ProMX, and the exposure provided to the nation’s emerging stars in the MA Motocross State Challenge will undoubtedly open pathways to more international opportunities.
Every State Controlling Body in Australia, representing the Northern Territory, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland, will field 12-rider teams in the MA Motocross State Challenge: six riders apiece in the MX85 (12-16) and MX3 (14-U18) classes.
The selection process for the MA Motocross State Challenge is now in its final stages, with team announcements to begin very shortly.

In what will be a huge buzz for the MX85 riders on Friday, they will be the first to cut laps on the all-new 1.6km track, which feature 22 corners, 21 jumps and a 90-metre start straight that will cross the precinct’s road circuit.
The practice and qualifying baton will then pass over to the MX3 class before racing officially commences. All three MX85 motos will be held on Friday, while the MX3 program will be split between Friday (two motos) and Saturday (one moto).

In addition to the MA Motocross State Challenge at the MXGP of Australia, all three world championship classes in Darwin will also feature Aussie wildcards from ProMX – adding more local flavour into what will be a sensational event.

“What better outlet to showcase Australia’s precocious young talent to the world than the MXGP of Australia,” said Motorcycling Australia CEO, Peter Doyle.
“I’m continually amazed by the quality of the riders coming through the ranks in Australia via the improved pathways and regulation changes a few years back.
“Having the ability to perform in front of all the World Championship riders, teams and managers is a rare opportunity for young Australians and one they shouldn’t miss.
“Darwin will be yet another chance for our junior stars to shine, in what I fully expect will be six fiercely contested MX85 and MX3 motos. And with pride on the line between the states and territory, no stone will be left unturned to gain that winning edge.
“The MA Motocross State Challenge will kickstart what will be a jaw-dropping three days in the Top End.”
