The Serco Yamaha team experienced a mixed day of results at round six of the ProMX Championship with team riders Jesse Dobson and Bailey Malkiewicz battling hard throughout the weekend to over come plenty of issues faced.

The team went all out in support of the retro round theme at Coffs Harbour with the retro vibes going through the bikes, the riders gear and even the team uniforms as they stood out from the crowd.

Jesse Dobson started the day strongly posting fast lap times in qualifying and taking P2 which was important given the muddy conditions of the start gate and front straight. Dobson gated well and was inside the top five in the early going of race one and wanted to move forward. The tacky, technical conditions made it hard for Dobson to keep the forward momentum and as a result, his arms started to pump up.

He continued to battle bravely but couldn’t maintain the speed required to run up the front. He was able to manage the race well and despite his arms and hands locked to the grips, he was able to bring it home in fifth place.

The drama wasn’t over for him yet, between races he became unwell and was vomiting from what felt like food poisoning. He was able to get medication from the RACESAFE team and lined up for moto two feeling squeamish but hoping to get through the 25minute race.

He did exceptionally well to fight all the way through and finished in fourth place. He didn’t have the pace of the front two riders but was able to log solid laps to the end and grab good points in the championship chase.

Despite his challenges, he was able to move up one place in the title chase, and now sits in third, 12 points ahead of teammate, Bailey Malkiewicz.

Malkiewicz had a tough day by hi standards and came home in ninth place on the back of his 10-7 results. Still dealing with a knee issue from the Gilman round, the rut infested Coffs harbour track wasn’t ideal conditions for a rider with knee issues, but he kept in the fight as best he could.

A small mistake in race one cost him a few positions and he experienced some pain in his knee when his foot grabbed one of the many ruts on the track. Race two and he didn’t get the bets starts but was able to pick off a couple of riders to claw his way to seventh.

“It wasn’t the best weekend for me, and I struggled in both motos. The first was a combination of arm pump, crash and tweaking my knee, while the second was just a fight from start to finish. It was the best I could do given the situation and I will get some rehab in before the next round with a view to finish the final two rounds strongly,” Malkiewicz said.
