WBR Yamaha Back on Track at ProMX

After a couple of punishing rounds that has seen the team decimated with injury, the WBR Yamaha team left round six of the ProMX Championship feeling a little more positive after good performance from Levi Rogers and fill-in rider, Hugh McKay.

The last couple of rounds have been anything but easy for the WBR Yamaha team as Ryder Kingsford went down with a season ending knee injury prior to round five, then Levi Rogers tearing his elbow opening before racing even started at Maitland, leaving the team rider-less at round five.

But with McKay enlisted to fill in for Kingsford and Rogers returning from his elbow injury, things were looking a little more rosy come race day at round six, just like the weather at Coffs Harbour.

Levi Rogers has had an awful start to the year. During pre-season training, he crashed and required a shoulder reconstruction that kept him on the side-lines until round three. Since then, he has found it hard to get the quality bike time to compete at the front of the MX2 field with weather and further injuries hampering his progress, but he may have turned the corner at Coffs.

He was in the heat of a huge five rider battle in race one from positions six through 10. The racing was intense as the riders swapped positions with regularity for the majority of the race. In the waning laps, he went down in a turn and lots several positions but managed to finish the race in 12th place frustrated but happy to be back in the battle.

Race two and he hustled early to get himself into the top four where he maintained the position for the opening laps. Jesse Dobson was able to get bay on lap six, but from then on Rogers was rock solid in speed and fitness and crossed the finish line in fifth place – his best moto result in ProMX.

The 12-5 results gave him eighth for the day and a good platform to finish the last two rounds strongly from.

“It good to finally leave a track in 2022 having competed both races and riding at a reasonable level. I owe the WBR Yamaha team as I haven’t been able to get the results on the board but hopefully this is the start of some good rounds to finish off the championship and I can show them what I can really do.

“I got some good arm pump in race one and tried to ride through it but struggled as a result, had a small crash. It took me a while to get the bike started but the damage was done when I fell. The second race was much better and more what I think I’m capable of. I tried to just ride my own race, stay focused and not worry about what’s going on around me and I was able to get my best result at a national.

“Thanks to the WBR Yamaha team for standing by me and I hope to repay them with some good performance at QMP and Coolum,” Rogers ends.

And it was a typical workman like performance that you come to expect from Hugh McKay. The hard-working Tasmanian may not be the fastest rider on the track, but he works hard at his craft, gives it everything he has, every ting he goes on the track.

He finished the day with 7-10 results and landed in 10th overall for the round in a very tight top 10 standings.

“Race one was pretty good, and I felt I rode well in the conditions, but I struggled a bit in race two. I needed a better start to get away with the front group and I was outside the top 15, so I just made it hard on myself.

“But its great to be back with the WBR Yamaha team and I thank them for their support of me and look forward to the final two rounds.”
