Gibbs drawing the curtain on spectacular motocross career
South Aussie motocross star Kirk Gibbs will retire from competition at the conclusion of the 2025 Penrite ProMX Championship presented by AMX Superstores (ProMX) on August 2-3, bringing an end to a decorated two-decade career.
The 36-year-old South Australian native, who now lives on the Sunshine Coast, will wave goodbye after finishing top three in eight ProMX titles between 2010 and 2023, which included a sensational victory in the 2015 MX1 class on a KTM.

Gibbs, still with KTM, then followed up with two hard-fought second places in the 2016 and 2017 MX1 titles behind Dean Ferris, with his explosive presence on the local scene also rewarded with selection in the 2017 and 2018 Australian Motocross of Nations teams.
Gibbs’ career also included victory in the two major upper-age classes at the 2004 Australian Junior Motocross Championship.

As a rider who embodies perseverance and unwavering dedication, he serves as an example of never giving up in the pursuit of achieving goals.
“It feels like an eternity since I joined professional racing, although at the same time being so focused on one goal year after year makes it also feel shorter in a way,” said Gibbs. “Saying that it’s been 20 years of professional racing is crazy to me, but I’m so grateful and thankful to have had the career that I have had.
“I was a bit of a late bloomer as a junior, so it was hard to imagine this transitioning into a full-time career at the time – then to have won the 2015 MX1 title and represent Australia at the Motocross of Nations twice is pretty special.
“Being part of the KTM Racing Team for most of my 450 career has been awesome, and really, it has just felt like home. We clicked from the get-go, and then to win the championship in ’15 – we were just in the sweet spot.
“I’m really grateful and fortunate for the career I have had, and I’m looking forward to putting my best foot forward at QMP this weekend, as well as absorbing the moment.”

Gibbs is currently sixth in the 2025 MX1 standings on his KTM Racing Team 450SX-F, with two motos remaining at Queensland Moto Park on August 3 to bookmark a magnificent career.
