The 2026 Penrite ProMX Championship presented by AMX Superstores (ProMX) is set for a blockbuster season launch, with the Victorian Government confirming its support for the opening round via its Significant Sporting Events Program (SSEP).

Scheduled for 21-22 March, the two-day spectacular will return to the iconic Wonthaggi Motocross Track for the sixth consecutive year, continuing a proud partnership with host club, the Dandenong Motorcycle Club.

The 2026 season opener will feature five classes — Kawasaki MX1, Pirelli MX2, Maxxis MX3, MX85 and Ezilift MXW — alongside the highly anticipated FIM Oceania Women’s Motocross Cup. The international Cup will draw elite female competitors from Australia, New Zealand, the United States and FIM Asia, cementing the event’s reputation as a truly global motocross destination.

Wonthaggi has become a cornerstone of the ProMX calendar, renowned for its demanding sand-based layout, passionate crowds and the stunning natural backdrop of the Bass Coast region. The event delivers significant economic benefit to the Bass Coast, with riders, teams and spectators travelling from across Australia and overseas.

Beyond the racetrack, visitors are encouraged to explore the region’s renowned tourism offerings, including Phillip Island, Inverloch and San Remo, making the ProMX opener a weekend getaway as much as a world-class sporting contest.

Victorian Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Steve Dimopoulos:
“What a way to kickstart another season of the Penrite ProMX Championship than in Wonthaggi, an iconic part of Gippsland and regional Victoria.”

“Wonthaggi has quickly become a home for ProMX action and thanks to the Victorian Government’s Significant Sporting Events Program, locals can again enjoy elite level motorcross in their own backyard, providing a massive boost for local businesses.”

Peter Doyle, CEO, Motorcycling Australia:
“To open the 2026 ProMX season at Wonthaggi, with the continued backing of the Victorian Government, is a tremendous outcome for our sport. This venue tests the very best riders in the country, and with the FIM Oceania Women’s Motocross Cup bringing the best talent from the USA, New Zealand and Asia to our shores, we’re delivering a truly international event in regional Victoria.

“The two-day format amplifies the spectacle, giving fans more racing and more drama right from the opening gate drop. We’re incredibly grateful to the Significant Sporting Events Program for recognising the value of our championship and for investing in the growth of Australian motocross.”
